The epistle to the Romans says that through the one righteous act of Jesus Christ justification came to all men. (Rom.5:18) Misunderstanding this verse gives rise to teachings like “everyone is automatically righteous, believers and unbelievers alike”. Such teachings may look attractive, but they destroy our faith, because they make it void.

Yes, justification has been given to all men, but not all are righteous, for faith is accounted
for righteousness, and not all have faith (Rom.4:3,5; 2 Ths.3:2). Such errors arise because some think that faith is man’s effort and merit, but faith is the gift of God. (Eph.2:8)
