God’s Pearl
What is the difference between a cursed person and a blessed one? Many will perhaps think that the cursed one is sick, poor and constantly beset by misfortune, while the blessed one is the one who lives, as they say, “as snug as a bug in a rug”.
But this is what the Lord says about it: “Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart departs from the LORD…. Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, and whose hope is the LORD.'” (Jer.17:5,7)
So here is the simple difference: the cursed one is the one who trusts in himself and his own strength and in the abilities of other people, and the blessed one is the one who puts his hope in the Lord. :-)
P.S. By the way, the Lord reminded me that this is the theme, or the word, for this year, 2018. The verse from Psalm 118 (117 in the Synodal numbering), which corresponds to 2018, says exactly this: “It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.” (Ps.118:8)
